Hammons to Appear in Your Show's "What's on Your Mind?" Sunday Aug. 3d

Bill Hammons, Unity Party candidate for Colorado's Second Congressional District, will be appearing in a taped segment of "What's on Your Mind?" to be aired on Comcast Channel 3's "Your Show" on Sunday, August 3rd.

"It's been 15 years since my last appearance on television," says Hammons, "so you could say I'm a bit rusty. But this first tv appearance of my campaign ties in with the campaign's general trendline of increasing exposure and improving performance. I'll be taking a break from watching the Sunday morning talk shows to tune in to my appearance, and I encourage the voters of the Second District to do the same."

About Bill Hammons

Bill Hammons graduated from New York University in 1997 with a degree in English and American literature -- not to mention graduated from Permian High School of Friday Night Lights fame in 1993 -- worked in management at Newsweek Magazine for seven years, and moved to Boulder to enjoy the stunning views and the great running trails. He is the sole proprietor of wrhammons.com, whose extensive and popular Guide to Boulder and Beyond covers a territory which bears an uncanny resemblance to Colorado's Second Congressional District. His campaign site is www.bill-for-congress.us.

About the Unity Party of America

The Unity Party of America was founded on Nov. 4, 2004 (the day after the last presidential election) by Hammons and several others. This centrist national political party now covers 23 states -- latest state: Wisconsin -- is officially recognized in the State of Colorado, and has fielded multiple Congressional candidates in the 2008 election season. Its website is www.unityparty.us.

Teleprompter text for the segment:

"Hi, my name's Bill Hammons, and I'd like to be the next Congressman for Colorado's Second Congressional District, which stretches from Westminster to Lyons and over the Divide into Eagle and Grand counties. I grew up in Odessa, Texas, graduated from Permian High School of Friday Night Lights fame, then graduated from NYU with a degree in English and American Literature. I worked for Newsweek Magazine for seven years as the Rights and Reprint Sales Manager before moving to Boulder and making a business out of my website of wrhammons.com.

"Put me to work for you in Washington, and I'll work for a Balanced Budget Amendment, the elimination of taxes on the first thirty thousand dollars of income, and push for global carbon emission licenses which are far more fair and effective than the Kyoto Protocol. A permanent balancing of the federal budget by outlawing new federal debt would help return us to the prosperity of the Nineties, which was fueled by George Bush Senior's balancing of the budget and Clinton's surpluses. The elimination of income taxes for all taxpayers on their lowest income levels would encourage economic growth in ways the Bush tax cuts never have.

"I plan to, if and when elected, not only speak out on balanced budgets and energy security, I plan to work for the people of Colorado on the day-to-day issues which most directly affects us. Part of the revenues we could accrue from carbon emission licenses could help fund I-25 and I-70 mass transit systems, which are past overdue.

"I'm the chairman and co-founder of the Unity Party of America, which has a membership in twenty-three states listed at w-w-w-dot-unityparty-dot-us. I successfully petitioned to represent the Unity Party on the November ballot with over a thousand signatures, and, as a result, the Unity Party is now officially recognized in Colorado. The next time you fill out a voter registration form, check the box next to Unity in the party affiliation section, and make your first vote for balanced budgets, more sensible tax policies, and real environmental reform.

"The voters of the Second District can send one of 535 members of the two-party system to Capitol Hill, or they can send a member of a new party, the first true third-party member of the United States Congress since the Forties. They can send a message on behalf of the people of all of Colorado, on behalf of the people of all of the United States, that average Americans are tired of deficit spending and are tired of passive inattention to the nation’s problems. The people of North Central Colorado can send a message to our fellow Americans that our fellow Americans are not alone in their disgust at the ten trillion dollar federal debt, are not alone in their disgust at the prospect of off-shore drilling, are not alone in their disgust at gas prices through the roof for as far as the eye can see. The people of North Central Colorado can make a statement on behalf of America that the two-party system should have seen these problems coming for decades, did not do what should have been done, and therefore does not deserve its monopoly on power, if it ever did deserve its monopoly on power.

"The voters of Colorado’s Second District have a historic opportunity, a viable third-party option for the United States Congress. I’ve successfully and independently run a revenue-generating department at Newsweek, a corporation larger than Congress. I’ve created budgets and I’ve stuck to them. I’ve been asked to produce real results and I’ve produced real results.

"Make your second vote for commonsense by donating to Hammons for Congress at w-w-w-dot-billforcongress-dot-us. That’s bill-f-o-r-congress-dot-u-s. You don't need to donate two thousand dollars to make a difference in two thousand eight. Just donate twenty.

"Then, if you live in the Second District, make your third vote on November Fourth.

"And on Primary night, Tuesday, August 12th at 7 pm, join us at Cantina Laredo on the 29th Street Mall in Boulder to kick off the general election season. I thank you for your time."
