Bill Hammons Gives New Meaning to ‘Running for Congress’ with 20-Miler
Colorado 2nd Congressional District candidate Bill Hammons will be
giving new meaning to "Running for Congress" with the Snowman
Stampede 20-Miler on Saturday, Feb. 23rd.
"I intend not only to be the first third-party member of Congress
in more than 60 years," Hammons says, "but I also intend to be, to
my knowledge, the first veteran ultramarathoner in the United
States Congress ever. This 20-miler I'll be running this weekend
will be the first of a few foot races to raise campaign
contributions and to prepare myself for a somewhat longer run
sometime this summer. I will neither confirm nor deny my
intentions, but I've run the 50-mile distance twice, once in the
mountains south of Leadville, and Colorado's 2nd District
stretches well over a hundred miles from west to east.
"But that's this summer. I'm asking my supporters to contribute
now in support of my race this weekend, a dollar a mile or a
multiple of dollars per mile. There will be only a Democrat and
myself in that other race after the Democrats' August primary, my
platform is well-considered and firmly grounded in reality, and I
have run a capable campaign to date. But that campaign needs
contributions to make history, and now is the time to make a
contribution."
